“Personal Physician Care the way it used to be. Personalize care by a doctor that gets to understand who you are, understand your medical history, and provide a personalized plan of action without being rushed.
For 30 years, in a different part of the country, I had the same Physician. For the first 15 years, he knew who I was and understood my medical conditions and was able to give me a personalized plan of action. Then he became a part of the Cleveland Clinic Physicians Group. Everything began to change over the next 15 years. Appointment times were allotted in 20-minute increments vs 1 hour before, he reviewed my chart on his laptop when he entered because he was shuttled from one appointment to the next. He began to know me only by the diagnosis that he used to bill my insurance. He seemed very unhappy, very different from the way he used to be. Towards the end I became very disenchanted and stopped going for preventative care because I felt as if there was none.
I moved to the Port Angeles area and there were no Personal Physician openings. I signed up on 3 waiting lists. Almost 2 years later, Olympic Medical Physicians were the first to contact me and said they had a Physician, Jessica Myhre, DO, moving back to the area and they were accepting new patients. I immediately scheduled an appointment. The first introductory visit was intriguing. I felt that since I was on 2 other waiting lists, I could interview her to make sure it is what I was looking for. I am not sure she was prepared for that but handled it exceptionally well answering all of my questions. I was very satisfied and went home and told my wife I had found a physician I was excited about and had her immediately call to schedule an appointment. She returned from her first appointment feeling the same way.
After the first year under her care in Olympic Medical Physicians program all of my appointments were shuffled to a Physician’s Assistant and my appointment times were shortened to 20-minute increments although the amount they billed my insurance continued to increase. Déjà vu.
Olympic Medical Center is a wonderful hospital as I found out when I had an accident and had to spend 3 days there. I was impressed with the level of care and attention that I received. They left nothing to be desired in my medical care.
I understand that there is a shortage of General Practitioners in the area and Olympic Medical Physicians has attempted to develop a program to handle the greatest quantity of patients. What was lost in doing that, in my opinion, was any sort of personalized care in that program. I became demotivated and for almost 2 years went back to no preventative care visits. In order to renew a prescription, I was forced to schedule an appointment. I insisted that I to see Dr. Myhre otherwise I would not schedule. The appointment came and I left again satisfied after seeing her with her whole person approach. I received a letter from OMP shortly afterwards stating that Dr Myhre was leaving “to pursue other interests in the community” as of July, 2020. My initial reaction was great disappointment.
In August, I searched for her via the internet and found out about her “other interest”, Koru Health, and became very intrigued with the description. I shared with my wife who called and left a message that she had some questions. Dr. Myhre promptly called her back and answered all of her questions plus gave additional details. We immediately signed up. My wife and I have each had 2 visits lasting one hour and could not be more satisfied. I feel we found the personalized holistic care we used to have 20-30 years ago and have craved ever since. She has been very attentive and responds promptly when there are questions or when scheduling an appointment.
Appointment time frames are not rushed and are often back to an hour like my experience was 30 years ago. It has been so refreshing!
I highly recommend Dr. Nikki and give her the highest ratings available! “
